Who I Work With

Counselling: I work with adults – individually or couples.

How long is a session?

I provide 50 minutes sessions for individual clients, 80 minutes for couples or groups. 

What happens during the first session? 

This will not be a normal session. I repeat: this will not be a normal session. This session is to gather more information for and from you, really a sense of who you are and for you to meet and get a sense of me.  During this session you may often feel the need to focus on the issues that drew you to Counselling or Coaching; but, as urgent as those feel, you probably won’t get the chance to talk about them in depth. Not that I don't want to hear about the things you’re coming in for!

The intake session can feel like a weird encounter. You may hear me say, “That sounds really important, and I want to come back to that, but for now, I need to know…” You are also welcome to say, “I know that we have to get through all this stuff, but I want to make sure we talk about…”

 

 

How many sessions will I need?

You might come with an issue that is solved after one or two sessions. Some people like to meet eight to ten times, and some like to come over a longer term.  Counselling and Coaching do not have a set time length, and the duration, agreed with you, will reflect your individual situation and wishes.

Session frequency

My approach is active, engaging, and skills-based, so we will agree a schedule that suits us both.

 

What happens during the sessions?

I want to work with you on finding solutions as quickly as possible. You needn’t worry that this has to be a long-term commitment. My preferred style is designed to equip you with strategies.

During the first session (or sometimes two), I will gather information from you about what you are facing and what you’d like to achieve. 

We will define the areas to be worked on together; I will use my knowledge to help you make the changes you want to make. We will periodically check whether we are following a path that is helpful for you. 

I may take notes during our meetings and give you exercises to do outside of our sessions. You may find it useful to take your own notes and to take notes outside of our sessions.

What happens after the sessions?

There will likely be homework. Counselling and Coaching are more than the time we will spend together. Homework makes sure that you continue to care for yourself throughout the times between the sessions, it allows you to try and engage in new behaviours and experiment with content that's related to your goals.

My practice is an online practice only (Telehealth).

Do you offer in-person sessions?

From 2024 online only.

Cancellation Policy

 

Attendance Policy: Your attendance at each scheduled session is crucial for effective progress. A delayed appointment can impact my schedule and other clients. To show respect for me and other clients, I kindly request a minimum of 24 hours' notice for any rescheduling or cancellation.

Late Cancel or No-Show: A late cancel or no-show appointment affects at least three people: you, me, and another client who could have potentially utilised your time slot. This is why timely cancellations are greatly appreciated.

 

Waiver for Serious Emergencies: In the case of a serious or contagious illness or a true emergency, I waive the cancellation fee. Work-related issues do not fall under this category.

Reminders and Your Responsibility: While I send an email reminder for your convenience, please note that it remains your responsibility to keep track of and attend all scheduled therapy appointments, even if you do not receive a reminder.

Fees for No-Shows & Late Cancellations:

No-Show Fee: $100 Late Cancellation Fee (less than 24 hours notice)

How 24-Hour Notice Works: To avoid fees, cancellations must be made via email at least 24 hours in advance. For example, if your appointment is scheduled for 3:00 pm on a Tuesday, notice must be given by 3:00 pm on Monday at the latest.
